OPSEU 353 Scholarship

OPSEU Local 353 is once again offering a scholarship for members and children of members in good standing.

The following is the criteria for selection of the 2012 local 353 Scholarship:
A brief resume outlining non-academic interests and activities, such as community or political involvement as well as goals for the future.
Evidence of understanding of the role and significance of the Canadian labour movement.

In order to satisfy point (2) above, applicants will be required to submit an essay of not more than 1,000 words. This year's topic is:

General Membership Meeting Elections on December 15th.

There will be an important General Membership Meeting on December 15th in Room #C113, Wiley Building at 3:30pm.
At our last Union College Committee (UCC) Meeting, the College agreed to allow members to leave their work area @ 3pm in order to attend this meeting.
YOU MUST REQUEST THE TIME OFF FROM YOUR SUPERVISOR IN ORDER TO ATTEND.

NOMINATION FORMS MUST BE RECEIVED BY ANN HALL IN THE UNION OFFICE (Room 1210, Simcoe Building) BY 1PM TUESDAY, DECEMBER 13th.

College support workers ratify tentative contract deal

Support workers at 24 community colleges in Ontario today endorsed a tentative contract settlement reached last month with management.

The workers, represented by the Ontario Public Service Employees Union, voted 87 per cent in favour of the tentative deal which was reached Sept. 18 following an 18-day strike.

General Membership Meeting, September 30th 2011

General Membership meetings will be held on Friday, Sept. 30th . Rod Bemister, Marg Rae and Christine Legault members of the Bargaining Team will provide information and answer questions on the tentative Agreement.

Scheduled meetings are:
Oshawa Campus – 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m., Room UA2140
Oshawa Campus - 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m., Room UA2140
Whitby Campus – 3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m., Room 11-11.

A pizza lunch will be provided ONLY to those that RSVP no later than noon, Wed., Sept. 28th.

Tentative agreement reached with Management

(TORONTO – September 18, 2011) – A tentative agreement has been reached to end an 18-day strike by more than 8,000 community college support staff in Ontario.

The deal, which must still be ratified by college staff members, was reached late Sunday night following two-days of intensive bargaining by negotiators for management and the Ontario Public Service Employees Union.
