COVID-19 / College Closure

To Members of Local 353 Support Staff Durham College,

As events surrounding COVID-19 continue to rapidly evolve, the College has taken many steps to keep students and staff safe. This started with a step down of services offered and has resulted this morning in the unprecedented announcement to close the College.

I understand the events and announcements of last few days have caused a great deal of confusion and anxiety for some members. Please know that your Local Executive and Officers have been working non stop to answer questions the best we can and coordinating with DCLT, the President’s Office and Senior Management.

As we have all adapted to the constant, sometimes minute to minute, changes of this situation, I want to thank you all for your patience and understanding. Also, thank you for working together to ensure essential services remain available to students, faculty and staff. The members of Local 353 constantly amaze me with your commitment and resiliency.

I know that when the College resumes normal operations the members of Local 353 will once again rise to that challenge as well.

As we all transition to this new reality and different service delivery, know that your Stewards, Officers and I are here to handle any and all questions or concerns. Please reach out if you need anything.

Take care of yourselves and Family, we will all get through this together.

In Solidarity,

Mike
